dc.description.abstract The first phase of the Hungarian debate on Kant (1792–1822) was a short, but interesting period (1792–1800). It was characterised by Latin language, high philosophical quality, and international scholar target audience of its main figures. (Later, from a booklet published in 1801, preferred language of the discourse was Hungarian; target audience was a larger, but nation-level public sphere.) This short period is divided by the year of 1795, the date of prohibition of Kantian philosophy in the Hapsburg Monarchy. Aft er 1795, a “writing act” of a critique of Kant means an apologia of prohibition, exemplified by János Keresztély Horváth’s book in this article. Before 1795, critique of Kant was a part of the free debate of the academic sphere. It is exemplifi ed in my article by József Rozgonyi’s work, a unique approach of his age: a critique of Kant based on the Scott ish tradition of philosophy. With this special point of view of Rozgonyi several problems of philosophical historiography has emerged. Where is the place of Rozgonyi in the canon of Hungarian philosophy? Whether we should discuss his oeuvre in the narrative of the reception of Kant or Hume; or we must rethink the concepts of national framework of history of philosophy. hu_HU
