Abstract:
The most common critical considerations related to constitutional patriotism are completely contrasting. Constitutional patriotism on the one hand is frequently charged by universalism. In this quality is considered as an abstract, bloodless phenomenon, what is inappropriate to provide the emotional bonding of citizens to their state. On the other hand it is accused by particularism due to its post-war German origins. In this paper I am going to explore these critical perspectives driven by the question, if the constitutional patriotism can be seen as an appropriate tool in handling the EU’s political identity crisis.
